College Faculty: Take Part in a Provincial Day of Action, September 9th

On September 9th, your College Faculty bargaining team will be back at the table for the first bargaining date in the new fall semester.

Let’s make sure that we send the Colleges a strong message: the workers training the workers of tomorrow are united in our fight for a fair contract! We’re fighting for a better college system, recognizing that student learning conditions are faculty working conditions.

On September 9th, we invite all members to participate in a Provincial Day of Action:

    • Wear purple or yellow in the workplace! Post photos with your colleagues to social media using the hashtag #TrainingOntariosFuture.
    • Contact your Local to find out if a Day of Action event is happening on your campus (e.g. drop-in sessions, lunch & learn, GMM).
    • Join colleagues across the province in celebrating our work, Training Ontario’s Future! There is much to be proud of in the work we do preparing students for meaningful careers in their communities.
    • Talk to your colleagues about the proposals currently on the table. You can find an easy-to-follow bargaining proposal breakdown here.

We are strongest when we work towards a future together – it’ll take every one of us. Let’s start off the semester strong and ensure that not only is every one of your colleagues informed, but also engaged – ready to take part in the fight and turn up the heat!

Solidarity with our Part-Time Support Colleagues in Bargaining

College faculty are not the only ones heading back to the table in early September – the same week, our college support part-time colleagues are also back in bargaining. Let’s join CAAT-S PT members in wearing blue on Wednesday, September 11th  to send a strong message of support that we stand behind Part-Time Power!

Take a photo with your colleagues in your best blues! You can forward your solidarity photos to caatsptbargainingteam@gmail.com.

    In solidarity,

    Your CAAT-A Bargaining Team:

  • Silence is an accomplice to injustice: statement on recent attacks upon Palestine solidarity

Silence is an accomplice to injustice: statement on recent attacks upon Palestine solidarity

Taking a principled stand in a political climate where voices promoting truth and justice are routinely subject to bad-faith attacks is not easy. The courage of leadership is measured by standing by principles in times of adversity – and it is all the more important that in times like these, we stand together in solidarity.

The OPSEU/SEFPO Rainbow Alliance Arc-en-Ciel extends its solidarity to activists and union leaders currently facing coordinated, targeted attacks for their solidarity with Palestine.

As trade unionists, each of us should be greatly concerned to see such coordinated campaigns to smear activists who refuse silence and complicity. Silence has never protected us – silence is an accomplice to injustice.

We see these attacks as clear attempts to silence and undermine solidarity, diverting public attention from the genocide unfolding in Gaza. They are failed attempts to distract from the 180,000 Palestinian lives lost in the last year alone.

We stand with you in defiance of bad-faith actors eager to skew the story and divert attention from an ongoing genocide and immense human suffering. Your work shines a light in the darkness, and your resilience is a beacon of hope for those who have been silenced for exercising the same solidarity.

The path you walk is not an easy one, but you are not alone. We are here, standing shoulder to shoulder with you, committed to amplifying your voices, sharing the truth, and demanding justice. Together, we will continue to fight for a world where every life is valued, every voice is heard, and every community is safe from violence and oppression.

    Solidarity,
    Rainbow Alliance Arc-en-Ciel, OPSEU/SEFPO

    Workshop descriptions

    Starting a newsletter

This workshop offers everything you need to create a union newsletter: writing, design, editing and production. It’s for new editors, editors’ assistants, or others who are new to the process and want it all. Bring a copy of your local’s current publication, if you have one.

    Posting on the web

This two-part session will give you the tools to get a local website up and running. Using the popular (free!) web and blog program WordPress, learn the basics of setting up your site, adding content and how to make it available to your members (and the world!) You don’t need a current website to attend this workshop.

    Social media

This workshop provides information on what makes a good social media strategy and provides hands-on experience with various social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Plain language and the art of editing

Plain words deliver the most punch. Learn how to write and edit strong, clear, punchy messages that will reach and motivate your members. Bring copies of previous work, if you have any, and turn blah into brilliant.

    Photography

If pictures are worth a thousand words, you can break a lot of news in a very short period of time. Learn how good pictures can tell a story all on their own. Learn how to take great digital pictures, no matter what camera you are using. Then get the basic software skills to get the most out of your pictures for web or print.

    Media relations

Don’t fear the media: learn how to use them to get your message out! Successful media relations are about more than having a good message or soundbite to say. It’s also about knowing how to get your message out for maximum impact. This workshop will offer participants some key skills and concepts, as well as lessons learned in developing a media strategy and communicating with reporters.

Crafting letters to the editor and op-eds

How many times have you sent a letter to the editor – that never got published? Get your letter in print! Find out the secrets to writing letters and op-eds that grab the editor’s attention.

    Campaigns

For a successful campaign, you need a plan. Sign up for this course if you want to get the tools to organize and run a highly effective campaign – and to learn the keys to writing and delivering speeches that make an impact.

    Video

The use of video to tell a story has exploded thanks to smartphones and YouTube. However, getting a good short video is much more than point and shoot. Learn what makes for good video and how proper preparation, framing, background and sound can get your video noticed…and watched! You must have a video- equipped smartphone for this workshop.
